Let’s start with the product launch in May. At that time, I was full of expectations for Honda’s new eSP air-cooled engine. When the NW F125 was officially launched on June 12, the price was really satisfactory and very sincere.
At first glance, the overall shape of this new car we got is the typical rounded and simple European retro style. However, with the lights and chrome trims on the front of the car, it suddenly has a more luxurious and exquisite feel. Just like this “Candy Green” color scheme, the dark green metallic paint plus the gray and white lining color matching design is so beautiful 😃! And without the trunk, the curb weight is only 107kg, plus the 1246mm wheelbase common in Honda 125-level scooters, it is light, flexible and easy to control, which is its main tone.
Don’t think that the frame is not innovative just by looking at the wheelbase. The NW F125 uses the same three-stage shock absorption structure as the PCX160 in the engine suspension structure, which can effectively isolate the transmission of engine vibration and make our driving experience more comfortable😎.
Let’s talk about the eSP engine of this new platform. It’s amazing! These three letters stand for Enhanced, Smart, and Power. Enhanced means that compared with the previous Honda 125cc engine, it has undergone comprehensive design optimization, improved efficiency, and better fuel economy. The fuel consumption per 100 kilometers under the WMTC test environment is only 1.87 liters. You can tell whether it saves fuel or not! Smart means that it is equipped with I-DLING STOP automatic start-stop and ACG pulse silent start functions, making it super smart. Power is of course a power increase. With the support of variable vortex intake technology, the output of the whole vehicle has increased by 10%, and the top speed has also increased by 5%. Now the maximum power of the engine can reach 7kW, and the corresponding speed has also extended to 7750rpm. The speed corresponding to the peak torque of 10N.m has also been advanced from the old 6000rpm to 5750rpm. To put it bluntly, the acceleration and top speed performance are both stronger!
Moreover, the engine body is designed to be more compact, and the transmission box is also shortened, which not only reduces the deadweight, but also frees up more footrest space under the same body length. Like the water-cooled LEAD125, the NW F125 engine also has a small galvanized steel guard plate at the bottom, which can better protect the engine and avoid damage from bottom bumps. Oh, and its oil exchange capacity is only 550ml, which not only saves maintenance costs, but also reduces engine running resistance👏.
Next, let’s take a look at the headlights. The headlights of the NW F125 are two LED light-emitting units with lenses. There is no main light switch. The low beam lights are always on after unlocking. The turn signals on the left and right sides of the front of the car also have LED daytime running lights, which can make the car more noticeable on rainy days, and the safety factor is higher😁. The design style of the taillights echoes the front and rear headlights. They are also full LED light sources, and are decorated with a circle of chrome. The designers of Wuyang-Honda have really grasped the essence of retro models. This small detail that enhances the sense of refinement and class is too important for retro small scooters😃.
Take a look at the instrument panel. NW F125 is no longer simple and practical this time. It has a 5-inch vertical TFT full-color screen and two UI interfaces. I have to praise the brightness of the screen. At noon in the hot summer, the display is still clear and easy to read. This is much better than some models that claim to use TFT full-color instruments but cannot be seen clearly during the day! There are no buttons on both sides of the screen except for the status indicator light. Because its car system is a touch-screen design, you can enter the menu options by tapping the SET position on the right side of the screen, select the up and down arrows on the left, SET to confirm, BACK to exit, and the operation logic is very easy to use. The navigation screen projection function requires the “Wuyang Honda Zhilian” APP to be installed on the mobile phone. When projecting the screen, you can turn off the mobile phone screen to save some points. It can also be connected to the mobile phone wirelessly via Bluetooth only. At this time, the car computer can read the phone address book, display the incoming call information, and even make calls directly from the address book through the car computer. If it is connected to a helmet headset and a mobile phone, NW F125 becomes a good communication bridge.
The switch components on the handlebars are common, but the buttons feel good, and there is a circle of blue backlight at night. It’s just that when operating the buttons on the inner side near the instrument, you may have to extend your thumb, which is a bit inconvenient. However, Wuyang-Honda has added two dedicated function keys to the button definition. The lower left button on the throttle side can directly control the original tail box switch, and the red button on the opposite side can start and stop recording after connecting to DJI Action4. This is so practical 😁! I don’t know if it can connect to more brands of sports cameras through software updates in the future. If it can, it will definitely be more popular.
In terms of locks, the NW F125 is not equipped with the keyless system on the PCX160. It uses a car lock system that can connect to Wuyang-Honda’s own car networking APP for mobile phone unlocking and NFC card unlocking. The manufacturer comes with an emergency mechanical key and two NFC cards. If the mobile phone supports NFC function, you can also copy the original NFC key and unlock it with the mobile phone😃.
The one we got is the Pro version priced at 12,780 yuan, with electric heating function for the handlebars. After starting the engine, tap the left handlebar switch to select the heating power in blue, green, or red. Because the engine runs well, there are no balance blocks on both sides of the handlebars to reduce the vibration of the handlebars, so lighter aluminum alloy CNC parts are used for decoration. The parking handbrake is very practical for urban scooters, especially the Wuyang-Honda handbrake, which can easily park with one hand😎.
We also tested the handlebar heating function. At an ambient temperature of 27°C, the handlebar temperature reached 40.6°C after heating at low gear for 3 minutes; 46°C after switching to mid-gear for 3 minutes; and 56.7°C after heating at full power for 3 minutes. When used in winter, the heat may be lost, but it is enough to keep your hands warm in the cold wind😁.
In terms of storage space, the NW F125 does not have an open front storage compartment. Instead, there is a closable built-in storage compartment on the left side of the front of the vehicle, which can hold an ordinary mineral water bottle. There is also a TYPE-C mobile phone charging port inside. Retro scooters are often not as good as practical scooters of the same level in this regard, but being able to hold a bottle of water is good enough 😕.
The seat height is 745mm, and the seat cushion is designed to be wide and comfortable. Most people over 150cm tall can easily fit on it. The seat cushion is 72cm long, while the UY125 is only 65cm. Whether it is the width of the seat cushion or the stretch of the riding posture, the NW F125 is better. The storage compartment under the seat is a trapezoidal shape that is narrow in the front and wide in the back. The volume is considered to be above average among 125cc scooters. A full-face helmet cannot be put in, but a half-face helmet is fine. A 3/4 helmet depends on the model and width.
Pedal space is a major advantage of NW F125. The narrowest distance between the flat pedals is 28cm, and the width is 42cm. UY125 is only about 26cm, and this is the result of extending the wheelbase by 40mm. Combined with the 72cm seat cushion length, it can be seen that Wuyang-Honda has really put a lot of thought into the riding space😎.
The suspension configuration is relatively traditional, with a pair of 30mm diameter hydraulic shock absorbers at the front and a single shock absorber with non-adjustable preload at the rear. The effect is still the familiar Honda style of solidity and toughness with a bit of sportiness. We will talk about the specific experience in the next dynamic article 😁.
As for the wheels, it is the common Honda series 12-inch front and 10-inch rear aluminum alloy vacuum wheels, with 90/90-12 front and 100/90-10 rear Yuanxing YOSUN CY351 tires. The brakes are 220mm front brake disc + floating dual-piston caliper, rear drum brake, and a front wheel ABS system from Hunt. The braking force is enough for this level 😜.
The positioning and pricing of Wuyang-Honda NW F125 is very precise and sophisticated. The power, frame and configuration are upgraded in all aspects, aiming to become a new benchmark model for scooters in the 10,000 yuan class. The standard CBS version is priced at 9,980 yuan, combined with better body quality, accurately suppressing competitors and striving to create the best cost-effectiveness within 10,000 yuan.
The high-end ABS version is 12,180 yuan, and the top-end Pro version is 12,780 yuan, with rich configurations to show more comprehensive product strength😃.
For so many years, people may think that Honda’s small scooters are not high-end, but the riding experience is good. This time, Wuyang-Honda released NW F125, which is different. Not only does it use sufficient materials to strengthen the product strength, but it also has rich configurations and a high cost performance. The market competition is so fierce now, either you have a core power platform or top configuration. There are not many that can have both.
