Last year, BMW released two models, the R 12 nineT and R 12, based on a new power platform. Although BMW has not yet introduced these two models into China, it still cannot stop BMW’s pursuit of retro models. A year later, the 2025 R 12 S was officially released abroad, and this time it paid tribute to the R 90 S model of the 1970s.

This time, the R 12 S is still developed based on the R 12 nineT platform. The difference is that the appearance pays tribute to BMW’s classic model R 90 S in 1970, and the color matching is also perfectly reproduced. Although there is a very classic reproduction in color matching and style, the R 12 S actually has a more comfortable setting in the riding triangle. The addition of the “pig head cover” is the biggest feature of the whole vehicle. The rear seat also adopts the classic hump design. It has to be said that it does feel like going back to the past.

In terms of power, the R 12 S is still equipped with the same horizontally opposed twin-cylinder engine, with an actual displacement of 1170cc, a maximum power of 80kW/7,000 rpm, a maximum torque of 115N·m/6,500rpm, and a maximum horsepower of 109. The whole vehicle still uses a six-speed shift and shaft transmission structure. Although there is not much change in power, some optimizations have been made for the latest Euro 5+ emission standards.
In terms of configuration, the R 12 S also has an outstanding performance. The original factory provides two types of instruments, pointer and LCD, which also understands the voice of riders who like double-barrel pointer indicators. It is also equipped with BMW ABS PRO system, traction control, shift assist PRO, steep start control, handlebar heating, cruise control, etc.
In terms of chassis, the R 12 S still uses the Mazurki 45mm inverted front shock absorber and central rear shock absorber, both of which support adjustment functions. The front wheel is equipped with a four-piston caliper with a 310mm double disc, and the rear wheel is equipped with a double-piston caliper with a 310mm single disc. It can be seen that the shock absorption stroke and brake specifications are exactly the same as the BMW R 12 nineT.
In addition, BMW also provides optional hardware configurations, such as titanium alloy exhaust, original side bags, etc., and the software configuration also has tire pressure monitoring, anti-theft warning, emergency call, etc., of course, the price of many optional configurations is not cheap.
At present, the price of the 2025 BMW R 12 S has been announced, which is US$21,590. From the pricing point of view, it is nearly US$5,300 more expensive than the 2024 BMW R12 nineT.
